Getting Out of Bed
This is a wonderful time to set the tone for your day and any intentions. It's good to be deliberate and not snooze another hour though no need to rush. Bring awareness to your body, breath, and mind when you first awaken. Sit up. Perhaps you have a prayer or gratitude or an intention for your day. "Today, I will be aware of my speech and speak truthfully and kindly." or "Today I will be generous and openhearted and of service to others." This is also a good time to note dreams if this is your habit.
Place your feet down and feel them touching the floor. Stand up. Bow to your bed with thanks for your good fortune and for sound sleep. Making your bed mindfully afterward shows care for your place of rest and respect for our gifts and helps to complete a sense of mindful transition into the day.
