Lisa Gakyo Schaewe

Lisa Gakyo Schaewe is a Senior Student and Practice Leader with Eon Center. She was a student at Zen Mountain Monastery and a member of the Mountains and Rivers Order for over 20 years where she studied with John Daido Loori, Roshi and then his successor Konrad Ryushin Marchaj, Sensei. Her path then led her to Great Mountain Zen Center where she practiced under the guidance of Gerry Shishin Wick, Roshi for 6 years before transitioning to studies with Paul Gyodo Agostinelli, Sensei of Eon Zen Center. 

Lisa’s view and process as an artist are deeply informed by her years as a Zen student and she engages in creative process as a form of meditation practice. For her, art making is a way to directly experience the sacred, interconnected ground of being and appreciate the potential held within the open space of not knowing.

In addition to her work as an artist, Gakyo teaches meditation,  facilitates workshops combining contemplative practice and creative process and leads  groups in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. She is an Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor.
