Sila Paramita: The Perfection of Ethical Conduct

In Buddhism, Sila Paramita, or the perfection of ethical conduct, is the practice of morality without praise or blame. As Norman Fischer says, “This approach to ethical conduct, far from being uptight or rigid, is a joyful path of what naturally flows from the fullness of our hearts.” Practicing ethical conduct without falling into opposition and opinions is a real koan for our lives. What happens matters. And yet, it is also empty of any fixed rules or truths.

Our practice is to live in harmony with others, while not turning away from what is difficult. How do we take loving action without creating separation?
